Student Of The Month - 2016


For over 60-years, the Ellwood City Lions Club has honored an Ellwood City Lincoln High School student on a monthly basis.  This year's recipients are:

December - JORDAN  GILCHRIST.  The Ellwood City Lions Club honored Jordan Gilchrist as the December Student Of The Month at their last meeting at the Connoquenessing Country Club.  Jordan is a senior at Lincoln High School, a member of the National Honor Society, Peer Leadership and Club Hope.  She also loves the performing arts; therefore, she is active in the school's Choir, Choral Capers, Drama Club and musicals, and also sings for the local "One Voice" Contemporary Group.  Jordan volunteers for the Carpenters' Project and is a member of the Holly Redeemer Catholic Church.  The Lions presented Jordan with the Student Of The Month Certificate and a $100 donation towards her future studies in Medicine at the St. Mary's College of Notre Dame.  (Pictured: Jordan's grandfather Lester Smith, mother Trish Gilchrist, Jordan and Lions President Judy Dici.)

November - ERIKA  WALLEY.  The Ellwood City Lions Club honored Erika Walley as the November Student Of The Month at their last meeting at the Connoquenessing Country Club.  Erika is a senior at Lincoln High School, a member of the National Honor Society, President of Y-Teens and the Senior Class Vice President.  Additionally, she was the President of her Sophmore and Junior class.  For years, Erika has been a member of the Volleyball, Track and Cheerleading teams.  The Lions presented Erika with the Student Of The Month Certificate and a $100 donation towards her future studies in Medicine at the University of Pittsburgh.  (Pictured: Erika's mother Lisa Antuono, Erika, and Lions President Judy Dici.)

October - TAYLOR  PETRAK.  The Ellwood City Lions Club honored Taylor Petrak as the October Student Of The Month at their last meeting at the Connoquenessing Country Club.  Taylor is a senior at Lincoln High School, a member of National Honor Society and Y-teens club.  While being an honor student with 4.0 gpa, she participates in Volleyball, Track and Field and Swimming.  As a swimmer, Taylor's accomplishments of last two years include medals in WPIAL and PIAA: 100m Backstroke Gold, (3) 100m Freestyle Silver, (2) 50m Freestyle Silver, (2) 50m Freestyle Gold and (2) 100m Freestyle Bronze.  As a runner, Taylor's accomplishments of last two years include a 4x100 Relay Silver medal in WPIAL finals.  Additionally, Taylor is the Allegheny Mountain Swimming Scholastic All-American and the USA Swimming Scholastic All-American.  We all await for more accomplishments this year.   The Lions presented Taylor with the Student Of The Month Certificate and a $100 donation towards her future studies in Mathematics or Engineering.  (Pictured: Taylor's mother Patti, Taylor and father Jay Petrak.)

September - JOEY  CORTEZ.  The Ellwood City Lions Club honored Joey Cortez as the September Student Of The Month at their last meeting at the Connoquenessing Country Club.  Joey is a senior at Lincoln High School, a member of National Honor Society and an active participant of numerous clubs.  For years, he's been involved with Peer Leadership, Drama Club, Concert Choir, Coral Capers, International Club, Gifted Program, High School's Musicals, Cross Country and Track and Field.  He is a member of the Holy Redeemer Catholic Church, works part time for the CRT Concrete and donates blood to the Red Cross.  The Lions presented Joey with the Student Of The Month Certificate and a $100 donation towards his future studies in Chemical Engineering.  (Pictured: Parents, Cam-Rahn and Traci Cortez, sister Cami and Joey with Lion John Pansera.)

May - HANNAH  KAUFFMAN.  The Ellwood City Lions Club honored Hannah Kauffman as the May Student Of The Month at their last meeting at the Connoquenessing Country Club.  Hannah is a senior at Lincoln High School and a 12-yr veteran cheerleader.  In addition she is a member of the high school Save Club and German Club while participating in recreational softball.  The Lions presented Hannah with the Student Of The Month Certificate and a $100 donation towards her future studies in Finance.  (Pictured: Hannah's mother Mary, Hannah and Lion Eugene Gaul.)

April - FREDERICK  "RICKY"  ROTH.  The Ellwood City Lions Club honored Frederick Ricky Roth as the April Student Of The Month at their last meeting at the Connoquenessing Country Club.  Ricky is a senior at Lincoln High School and an honor student athlete with 3.95 GPA and Top 10 in his class.  In addition to being a member of the National Honor Society, Student Council and Mentor Club, Ricky has passion for sports.  After playing Little League Baseball he is currently the captain of the basketball team and the only player in this area that was selected as an All Star to play in the Round Ball Classic.  Ricky is also a letterman on the Varsity Track & Field Team and is a member of the Holy Redeemer Catholic Church.  The Lions presented Ricky with the Student Of The Month Certificate and a $100 donation towards his future studies in Finance.  (Pictured: Ricky's parents, Dr. Rick Roth and Denise Roth, Ricky and Lion President Richard Brewer.)

March - ERIKA  LYNN  LEMMONS.  The Ellwood City Lions Club honored Erika Lynn Lemmons as the March Student Of The Month at their last meeting at the Connoquenessing Country Club.  Erika is a senior at Lincoln High School where she is active in Senior Choir and Stage Crew providing help with school plays and performances.  She is also a member of the Pilgrim Baptist Church in Ellwood City.  The Lions presented Erika with the Student Of The Month Certificate and a $100 donation towards her future studies in Business and Pet Grooming.   (Pictured: Erika's sister Aytymn Weiss, mother Jennifer Prinkey, Erika and Lion John Pansera.)

February - PAIGE  MASON.  The Ellwood City Lions Club honored Paige Mason as the February Student Of The Month at their last meeting at the Connoquenessing Country Club.  Paige is a senior at Lincoln High School and a student athlete who lettered in Cross Country and Girl's Basketball.  She is an honor student and a Vice President of the National Honor Society, Treasurer of the History Club, Treasurer of the March Of Dimes Club and a member of the Student Council.  Paige also volunteers with American Red Cross Blood Drive and March For Babies.  The Lions presented Paige with the Student Of The Month Certificate and a $100 donation towards her future studies in Biology and Physical Therapy at Clarion University.  (Pictured: Paige Mason with her mom Lisa on the left.)

January - EMILY  BROWN.  A senior at Lincoln High School, Emily is an outstanding student with passion for sports.  In addition to being a member of the National Honor Society, French Club and Dance Club, Emily plays volleyball, basketball and slow pitch softball.  Currently, she is the captain of varsity Volleyball, Basketball and Marquette teams.  She is a member of Bell Presbyterian Church where she sings on the Praise Team.  During her childhood years she volunteered to help her dad in the Ellwood City Lions club.  The Lions presented Emily with a Student Of The Month Certificate and a $100 donation towards her future studies as a Secondary Math Teacher at Kent State University.  (Pictured from left: Emily's mother Carol Brown, Emily and her father Ed Brown.)
