SINCE 1940


Not only are we indebted to Melvin Jones and other Lions International founders, but also to those visionaries who organized our own club, the Ellwood City Lions Club.  E. G. Moyer, the organizer of a group of 21 civic minded men, who previously learned about Lionism, held an organizational meeting on October 17, 1940 at 6:00 p.m. at the Elks Club building in Ellwood City.  The group assembled to enjoy each other’s fellowship and initiated plans on how to serve their fellow man and the Ellwood City community by forming the Ellwood City Lions Club.

One month later, on November 13, 1940 at 6:00 p.m. the Ellwood City Lions Club was chartered with the following members:

RECOGNITION

While many others served with distinction on the District Cabinet over the years, in 1979, Ellwood City Lion Dr. Michael Carcaise, served as a District 14-N Governor.

The House of Representatives of Pennsylvania is always pleased to acknowledge those individuals who, through their dedicated civic endeavors, contribute to the well-being of their communities and ultimately to all the people of this Commonwealth.  In 2011, Ellwood City Lion Donald Parker was honored for 50-years of dedicated service with such citation:

Donald Parker "The House of Representatives of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania pays tribute to Donald Parker upon his well-deserved recognition; proudly notes his exemplary record of service and contributions, in keeping with the highest ideals of this esteemed organization; offers best wishes for the continuation of his many worthwhile and beneficial endeavors; that a copy of this citation, sponsored by the Honorable Jaret Gibbons on March 28,2011, be transmitted to Donald Parker, 325 Sixth Street, Ellwood City, Pennsylvania 16117."

The Lions Clubs International Foundation recognizes individuals or groups with The Melvin Jones Fellowship (MJF).  The MJF is the recognition of humanitarian work, an honor presented to those who donate their time and effort to Lionism. Past recipients of the MJF are Ellwood City Lions Gene Gaul and Donald Parker.

In 2014, Ellwood City Lion Ron Prokovich was honored with The Melvin Jones Fellowship by the Ellwood City Lions Club for his 48-years of dedicated service.

In 2015, three Ellwood City Lions were honored by PA Lions District 14-N for their continuous and dedicated service to Lionism.  RICHARD L. BREWER received a Melvin Jones Fellowship Award, RONALD PROKOVICH was inducted into Honor Roll of Lions and CALVIN SAMMONS received a Carl Shoemaker Fellowship Award.
